From painting outside to tasting local food to sampling drink specials and a full-on country western dinner dance, Carbondale offers a sampling of Carbonale Color this First Fridays. A celebration of all things Carbondale, the September 7th First Fridays highlights include the Carbondale Colors Plein Air, Fresh Paint exhibit presented by the Carbondale Council on Arts & Humanities (CCAH), and the Local Foods Challenge Kick-Off at Crystal River Meats, plus the 4th annual Cowboy Up fundraiser. During the week of September 3-7th, CCAH presents Carbondale Colors Plein Air, Fresh Paint culminating with a showing of the work produced all week at the CCAH R2 Gallery at the Third Street Center on September 7th, First Fridays, 5-7pm. The festival will give the community an opportunity to watch plein air artists at work and to see Carbondale through the eyes of the various talents. Participating artists are Liz Thele, Simon Winegar, Mary Noone, Dean Bowlby, Victoria Broyles, Jill Sabella, Majid Kahhak, Jane Lee and John Lintott. Besides sampling plein air artwork, the Local Foods Challenge — a 2-week challenge featuring a checklist of personal and political actions — begins on First Fridays. Crystal River Meats at 55 N. 4th Street will host a collaborative, fun-packed night that includes the Roaring Fork Food Policy Council (RFFP) and Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) Local Foods Challenge Kick-Off, an outdoor screening of the movie, “In Organic We Trust,” a CSA farm showcase, free slider samples of Crystal River beef and more! Also notable, the 4th annual Carbondale Cowboy Up Party on the 4th Street Plaza is from 6-10:30pm on First Fridays, September 7th. Admission is only $5. Food service is offered from 6-8pm and is provided by Smoke. The live auction will start around 7:30pm. There will be a live country western band to help dance away the night. All proceeds benefit Windwalkers where horses and caring professionals help families and individuals with challenges to grow and thrive.
