This Saturday, July 27, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) will host its Annual Mushroom Fair at Hallam Lake. The fair is free and open to the public and will feature visiting fungi expert Vera Evenson, Curator at the Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The Aspen area’s recent rain has boosted local mushroom growth and the fair will offer a fun and exciting environment to learn all about them! A wide variety of select specimens will be exhibited, identified and examined. Stations will include opportunities to look at mushrooms under a microscope, make spore prints, and learn about the intricate ways of fungi and their importance to ecosystems. The fair will also help you learn how to identify which mushrooms are choice edible varieties. Come to Hallam Lake this Saturday for a fun-filled afternoon learning about mushrooms! RSVPs and more information at www.aspennature.org.
The Mushroom Fair is the culmination of an in-depth 2-day field course with Vera running this Thursday and Friday.
