ASPEN Magazine and the Buddy Program are celebrating their
mutual 40-year anniversaries and commitment to the Roaring Fork valley by
presenting the first annual ASPEN Magazine Essay Contest. The contest is
open to all youth who are or have been served by the Buddy Program,
including Peer-to-Peer Big Buddies, Community Buddies and School Buddies.
There are two age categories with different prizes. The High School
(entering grades 9-12 this fall) winner will receive a summer internship at
ASPEN Magazine for summer 2014. The Middle School (entering grades 6-8 this
fall) winner will receive a $200 scholarship to fund activities of his or
her choice for summer 2014. In addition, winning essays will be published
in ASPEN Magazine¹s Midsummer issue.
Guidelines: The essay topic is about Commitment. In 200-500 typed words
tell a story about a commitment you have made and how it enriched your life
and made our community a better place. Think about things like helping
people, the environment, your school, a community organization or other
ideas that express how making a commitment has made a difference.
Entries and questions should be sent to email@example.com or can be
dropped off at the Buddy Program offices at the Red Brick Center in Aspen or
the Old Red Brick Building on the Basalt Elementary School Campus.
Entries are due by Friday, May 24th at midnight. Winners will be announced
at the Bash for the Buddies on July 5th.
