The Marshall Direct Fund is pleased to announce its annual event, a special reception in Aspen featuring Ahmed Ali, a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow and an experienced law enforcement and development practitioner in Pakistan. The event will take place on Monday July 23rd at Aspen’s Dancing Bear from 5pm to 7pm. Proceeds will support Marshall Direct Fund’s work to improve relations between the West and Muslim world through exchange opportunities and by expanding educational and vocational opportunities to the poor, especially girls and women, in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Marshall Direct Fund (MDF) was founded and established in 2007 by local resident, Silbi Stainton as a modern-day “Marshall Plan” for Southwest Asia. Advised by a team of world-class experts in diplomacy, counter-terrorism, and international development, MDF invests in education and women’s economic empowerment to help build the groundwork necessary for peace in a region of the world critical to international security. Ahmed Ali Aafani, highly respected in the field, is the Assistant Director at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad. He is currently working with the prestigious Protection Project at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in the field of human trafficking and human rights. He has previously worked with INTERPOL and UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) on issues related to transnational organized crime including human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, and crime prevention in the AFPAK region. He will have an interesting perspective and moving stories to share at MDF’s 5th annual event.
