Chalk it up, Carbondale! On First Friday, July 5th, Main Street is closed so chalk art can reign. Carbondale merchants will have specials celebrating all things Carbondale. To ready for all the activities, Main Street will be closed from 5-9 p.m., and as a reminder, Carbondale has a no open container law. A chalk art contest with three categories will have prizes for ages 12 and under (sponsored by Sawyer’s Closet), ages 13-20 (sponsored by Peppino’s Pizza), and ages 21+ (sponsored by Sopris Liquor). The 12 and under winner will be announced at 7:00 p.m.; teen and adult winners at 8:00 p.m. Artists are encouraged to bring their own chalk, but complimentary chalk will be available at Sawyers Closet and Peppinos Pizza, both on Main Street, starting at 5:00 p.m. as well as from Main Street booths from Sopris Liquor and CCAH.
In addition, Crystal River Meats at 689 Main Street is having an ice cream social, buy-one -get -one free ice cream cups and cones. The ice cream is Glacier ice cream, one of the best in the country, according to Forbes Magazine There will also be live music provided by Eric Gross and Rich Huttenhower, starting 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, July 6th, the unique (only a hand-full operating in the United States) wood-fired Carbondale Community Oven is hosting a pizza bake at the Third Street Center. It’s fun, it’s free and being an expert baker is not required. Anyone can bake their own pizza starting at 5:45 p.m. For more information and to RSVP, email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Visitors are encouraged to park in the temporary RFTA parking lot at the corner of Highway 133 and Colorado Ave. or at the corner of 4th and Colorado Ave., and walk to the various First Friday events, and safely enjoy the promotion of all things Carbondale.
