Friday, November 8th at 7:30 p.m. the Roaring Fork
Cultural Council in collaboration with Glenwood Medical Associates will
present Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D., at Thunder River Theatre
Company in Carbondale. Dr. Esselstyn, a former surgeon, researcher and
clinician at the Cleveland Clinic challenges conventional cardiology by
posing a compelling, revolutionary idea ³that we can, in fact abolish the
heart-disease epidemic by changing our diets². Drawing from his twenty-year
nutritional study he will show that plant-based, oil-free nutrition can not
only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease, but also reverse its

Bio – Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D., was a surgeon, clinician, and
researcher at the Cleveland Clinic for more than 35 years, where he was a
member of the board of governors and president of the staff. In 1991, Dr.
Esselstyn served as the president of the American Association of Endocrine
Surgeons, and organized the first National Conference on the Elimination and
Prevention of Heart Disease. In 2005, he became the first recipient of the
Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine. Dr. Esselstyn is also an
Olympic gold medalist in rowing, and was awarded the Bronze Star as an army
surgeon in Vietnam. Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have
followed a plan-based diet for more than twenty years.
