It’s with a hearty, sonorous oompah-pah that Carbondale celebrates First Friday, October 5th. The fall colors herald in Celtic Fest and October Fest as well as a smattering of SWAN. Transportation includes a horse drawn carriage throughout town sponsored by the Pour House. For more information, contact the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, 970-963-1890. Celtic Fest takes place in the 4th Street Plaza from 5-9pm. Neighbors and friends will toast the Emerald Isle with an evening of bagpipes, spirits, and the “Best Legs in a Kilt Contest.” The next day, on Saturday, October 6th, Oktoberfest takes over the 4th Street Plaza from 11am-9pm. It’s time to dust off last year’s stein and fill it full with this year’s brew. Oktoberfest promises to be a day full of fun with German bands, contests, food and beer. Commemorative steins will be available while supplies last. The internationally acclaimed SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) organization continues to spearhead celebrations throughout the world to honor and promote women artists. This First Friday, the Carbondale Council on Arts & Humanities will once again showcase one of the most prestigious collections of women’s art in the valley at its “VISION TO VOICE: Contemporary Work from Women Artists in the Roaring Fork Valley” gallery exhibit opening at 6pm in the R2 Gallery at the CCAH Center for the Arts, 520 S. Third Street. Harmony Scott Jewelry is celebrating the fall season by discounting its current sale items with an extra 20 percent off. Visitors are encouraged to park in the temporary RFTA parking lot at the corner of Highway 133 and Colorado Ave., walk to the various First Fridays events, and safely enjoy the promotion of all things Carbondale. The next First Fridays committee meeting is Thursday, October 11th, 9:30am at the Third Street Center conference room. For more information about the First Fridays committee, contact Andrea Stewart, 970-963-1890, firstname.lastname@example.org, and “like” First Fridays Carbondale on Facebook to stay in the loop.
