The Music on the Mountain Series continues at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with back-to-back concerts, featuring Lizard Skinner on Sat., Sept. 7, and an afternoon of Christian Music on Sept. 8. Guests can enjoy live music, drink specials and a free tram ride up and down the mountain during both events in exchange for a canned food donation to the LIFT-UP food pantry.
So far this year, the Music on the Mountain Concerts have brought in almost 5,100 non-perishable food items. The community donated 1,311 cans at the concert on Aug. 24, including 750 from concert sponsor Glenwood Insurance Agency, for a total of more than 28,000 since the series began in 2009.
Lizard Skinner, Sat., Sept. 7
Lizard Skinner brings an eclectic mix of classic and California surf rock and an element of reunion to the stage. Their song list is diverse and features a mix of the best tunes from The Steve Skinner Band and longtime local favorites Louie and The Lizards. With music ranging from Jane’s Addiction to John Denver, there promises to be a little something for everyone in the family. The band is fronted by local rock ‘n’ roll mainstays Louie Girardot (Louie & The Lizards) and Steve Skinner (The Love Machine, Wakabak) and features Corey Spagnolo (The Chambers Brothers, The Natives) on drums and Michael “Mikie” Girardot (Louie & The Lizards, Less than Lucid) on lead guitar.
Cans-for-a-tram rides begin at 4 p.m. and the band performs from 6-10 p.m. The park will be open until 10 p.m. for this event, with the last tram ride up at 9:30 p.m. The outdoor rides and attractions will close at dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 10 p.m. This concert is sponsored by the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.
Christian Music Concert, Sun., Sept. 8
Guests can enjoy an afternoon of contemporary Christian music performed by two local church groups. United with a common purpose, musicians from The Orchard church in Carbondale enjoy creating music together. With a variety of musical tastes from bands such as U2, Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Chris Tomlin and Jesus Culture, and backgrounds ranging from rock to blue grass, this group of musicians has a passion to blend music, life and faith into an experience the audience is sure to enjoy. Playing together every weekend at The Orchard, they strive to bring authenticity to their audience and be examples of their faith in Jesus Christ.
The New Creation Church Worship Team is leading the people of the Roaring Fork Valley in passionate, uplifting, and intimate praise and worship. Because of the way that youth are embraced and encouraged to be a part of the team, New Creation Church (NCC) has been blessed to draw its worship leaders from a deep and talented pool of musicians and songwriters within the congregation. Melissa Hefferon, who grew up in NCC, is the leader of the Worship Team and unites generations with simplicity and excellence.
The cans-for-a-tram rides begin at 2 p.m. for this special Sunday event, and the groups will perform from 4 – 8 p.m. The outdoor rides and attractions will close at dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 8 p.m. Bighorn Toyota is the sponsor of this event.
The series continues Sat., Sept. 14, with Acoustic Mayhem and wraps up on Sat., Sept. 21, with the Missing Link Band.
The Lookout Grille and Snack Shack will be open for dinner and refreshments; drink specials including $3 glasses of wine, $3.50 Coors Lights and Coronas, and $4 well drinks, will be available in the plaza. During the event, guests will also be able to experience the newly expanded Historic Fairy Caves Tour, the King’s Row Cave Tour and the park’s rides and attractions with a Funday Pass, just $35 with the free tram ride. It includes both walking cave tours and unlimited access to the Alpine Coaster, the Giant Canyon Swing, the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, the Mine Wheel, the Wild West Express Coaster, the Soaring Eagle Zip Ride, the Fort WhereAmI Maze, the 4D Motion Theater, the Laser Tag arena, the Speleobox cave simulator, the climbing wall and the Giddy Up! Western ride.
