Through the new Glenwood Springs Visitor Center, the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association and Colorado Mountain College have forged a partnership to help visitors kick off a Glenwood Springs vacation and to help recruit prospective students to one of the college’s 11 Western Slope locations. The building, located on the southeast corner of 8th and Grand, also hosts the administrative offices of both organizations. On Friday, July 20, the college and the chamber will host a joint Grand Opening Reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Chamber members and their guests, as well as members of the public, are invited to attend this event. In addition to enjoying wine and appetizers, those attending will take part as Colorado Mountain College unveils the new home of the college’s ArtShare gallery, adjacent to the Visitor Center. The gallery, which will be open to the public for the first time on July 20, will feature the work of Michael Kessler from Santa Fe, N. Mex., in the exhibit entitled “Opulent Abstractions of the Natural World.” Kessler has displayed his artwork in galleries and museums around the country and across Europe. He has won multiple awards, including the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome and the Pollock/Krasner Award. His paintings will be on display at the Colorado Mountain College gallery from July 20 through Sept. 6.
