It’s fun to play a round in Carbondale this First Fridays! The days are growing shorter but the fairways are still long and green. A celebration of all things Carbondale, the August 3rd First Fridays will include golf clinics, products and area course information. Transportation will include special rickshaw rides and a horse drawn carriage sponsored by the Pour House will be available for lifts around town. For more information, contact the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, 970-963-1890. The August First Friday theme will focus around golf in the Carbondale area. Sam Broome, PGA, Golf In Schools Director, will host an enrichment program that teaches golf to children in a fun and engaging environment, including contests and games, and local golf courses will have booths set up to demo new products and promote their courses. In addition to the First Fridays golf theme, 4th Street Plaza will also be home to live music, an exhibit of children’s photography, and the site of a new silent auction. The Photography Summer Camp for Kids taught by local photographers Summers Moore and Corie Spruill will host an opening to celebrate the passionate work of nine Carbondale kids. The Chamber also debuts its regular silent auction on First Fridays to financially help support the many activities each month. The golf-related auction this month will be in the Chamber booth on the 4th Street Plaza from 6-8:30pm. Majid Kahhak will paint, live, a portrait of a celebrity golfer on First Fridays from 6-8:30pm at Kahhak Fine Art, 411 Main St. This First Fridays theme parallels the promotion of the Carbondale Chamber’s Annual Business Conference and First Annual Golf Tournament and Ball Drop on Friday and Saturday, September 14-15. The Business Conference will take place at the Gathering Center and the Golf Tournament and Ball Drop will take place at Aspen Glen. Golf team registration and golf balls will be available for purchase at First Friday. The clinic, golf booths, and team registration and ball sales will take place in the 4th Street Plaza. Visitors are encouraged to park in the temporary RFTA parking lot at the corner of Highway 133 and Colorado Ave., walk to the various First Fridays events, and safely enjoy the promotion of all things Carbondale. The next First Fridays committee meeting is Thursday August 9th, 9:30am at the Third Street Center conference room.
