This week’s Music on the Mountain Concert at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park features Carbondale-based All the Pretty Horses. Guests can enjoy live music, drink specials and a free tram ride up and down the mountain in exchange for a canned food donation to the LIFT-UP food pantry on Sat., Aug. 17. Cans-for-a-tram rides begin at 4 p.m. and the band performs from 6-10 p.m., rain or shine.
The Music on the Mountain Concerts have brought in more than 3,000 cans of food for LIFT-UP so far this year, including 450 cans at last week’s concert, and more than 26,000 since the series began in 2009.
All the Pretty Horses is an American musical melting pot, creating original music and arrangements, often with others joining in on cello, fiddle, dobro or keys. The band was born to explore the music of Bob Dylan, but soon grew passionate about the sounds of Bill Frisell, the voice of George Jones, and traditional music from our country’s rough beginnings. The concert is sponsored by Bighorn Toyota.
The series continues Sat., Aug. 24, with the Rock Dogs; Sat., Sept. 7, with Lizard Skinner; Sun., Sept. 8, with the Christian Music Concert; Sat., Sept. 14, with Acoustic Mayhem; and Sat., Sept. 21, with the Missing Link Band.
The Lookout Grille and Snack Shack will be open for dinner and refreshments; drink specials including $3 glasses of wine, $3.50 Coors Lights and Coronas, and $4 well drinks, will be available in the plaza. During the event, guests will also be able to experience the newly expanded Historic Fairy Caves Tour, the King’s Row Cave Tour and the park’s rides and attractions with a Funday Pass, just $35 with the free tram ride. It includes both walking cave tours and unlimited access to the Alpine Coaster, the Giant Canyon Swing, the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, the Mine Wheel, the Wild West Express Coaster, the Soaring Eagle Zip Ride, the Fort WhereAmI Maze, the 4D Motion Theater, the Laser Tag arena, the Speleobox cave simulator, the climbing wall and the Giddy Up! Western ride.
The park will be open until 10 p.m. for the concert, with the last tram ride up at 9:30 p.m. The outdoor rides and attractions will close at dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 10 p.m. No outside food or drink allowed.
