“Railroad Daze”…. is the theme for the 43rd annual Silt Heyday, which will be held on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th at Veteran’s Memorial Park. We will be celebrating our history over the next 3years working up to our centennial in 2015. Our Grand Marshall will be Alice Jones and her family. Alice is an active volunteer in the Silt and Rifle area. The Silt Historical Society will kick-off the day at 7:00 am with a Pancake Breakfast and it will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park. Breakfast will be served until 9:30 am or until the food runs out. Timbermill with Twirp Anderson, Cash Cashman and Geoffrey Morris will entertain during breakfast from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Back for the 3rd Year is the Heyday Hobble – 5K race 7:30– starts and ends in the park Edgar Allen Roe VFW Post 9304 and the Rifle American Legion Kelly Hansen Post 78 will have a Flag Raising Ceremony in the park at 8 am. Craft, Food and Game booths will be setup around the perimeter of the park with many of the booths opening at 9 am. The Parade will start at 10 am. The parade will start staging at the old Silt Roy Moore Elementary School Gym at 9th and Orchard streets. The parade route is from 9th street, west on Hwy 6 & 24 and then turns north on 5th street. It will continue north on 5th Street to Grand Avenue, then turns east on Grand Avenue to 7th Street and continues north back to Roy Moore Elementary School where it will conclude. The judging of our parade entries will begin at 9 am and all parade entrants must be at their assigned spots by this time. Non-entrants need to be at Roy Moore Elementary no later than 9:15 am. – No entry fee. Entertainment Starts at 10:45am and Silt’s Historical Society’s Beer Booth will open at 11 am following the parade. Western Slope Stompers and other parade groups will offer entertainment by the gazebo. Kids’ Games in the Park Start at 11:30 pm and will be held in the center of the park. Vintage Baseball at 1:00 at the old Roy E. Moore grade school Kenny Brent & the Texas Express is scheduled to perform by the gazebo from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. They offer a mixture of Western music. There will also be a Watermelon Seed-Spitting contest at 4:30 pm, a Hotdog Eating Contest (new this year) at 5:00, a Jalapeno Eating contest at 6 pm, and a Pie Eating contest at 6:30 pm at the gazebo. The Missing Link Band is scheduled to conclude the Saturday entertainment by performing at the gazebo from 7
