Gaia Theory: Science & Metaphor of our Living Planet
Gaia Theory is the scientific idea of Earth as a single, living system that has a metabolism, moderates climate, and regulates ocean salinity. The term “Gaia” was suggested by William Golding (author of Lord of the Flies) over 40 years ago, celebrating the fact that science was rediscovering what our ancestors knew at a deeper, mythic level – that Earth is alive and that we are part of a seamless continuum of that life. Come explore this beautiful and compelling idea with Martin Ogle, an expert on the subject who has given hundreds of presentations about Gaia Theory to the general public as well as to academic and scientific audiences. Martin clearly communicates the science and metaphor, while imparting its implications for sustainable human endeavors. Retired after 27 years as Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, Mr. Ogle now lives in Colorado and has started a company called “Entrepreneurial Earth LLC” which puts Gaian principles to practical use.
Martin will teach a full day workshop at Toklat the following day – please register now by clicking here.
