ANTERO AGREEMENT / NEGOTIATIONS
GARFIELD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TOOK THEIR SHOW ON
THE ROAD YESTERDAY. THE BOARD HELD IT’S WEEKLY MEETING IN BATTLEMENT MESA, A COMMUNITY THAT’S BEEN IN THE NEWS FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF AS RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN BATTLING THE OIL AND GAS DRILLING PLANS OF ANTERO RESOURCES. LESLIE ROBINSON, REPRESENTING A GROWING NUMBER OF CONCERNED CITIZENS IN WESTERN GARFIELD COUNTY, APPEARED BEFORE THE BOARD TO ASK FOR A LITTLE MORE TIME TO GO OVER ANTERO’S REVISED PLANS. ROBINSON IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE NEGOTIATIONS BUT WANTS ASSURANCES THAT THE COUNTY’S TEN ACRE WELL PAD SPACING INTERVENTION
WILL REMAIN IN PLACE. COMMISSION CHAIRMAN JOHN MARTIN SAYS THE COUNTY WILL SUPPORT WHATEVER ANTERO AND THE CONCERNED CITIZENS AGREE TO BUT SAYS IT WILL NOT BE BINDING. ROBINSON SAYS THEY NEED AT LEAST ONE MORE WEEK TO GO OVER ANTERO’S PLANS BUT THE BOARD WARNED AGAINST RUSHING INTO IT.
HICKENLOOPER INAGURATION

HE’S NO LONGER MR. MAYOR. JOHN HICKENLOOPER IS NOW THE GOVERNOR OF COLORADO. THE DEMOCRAT AND NOW ‘FORMER’ DENVER MAYOR TOOK THE OATH OF OFFICE TODAY ON THE WEST STEPS
OF THE STATE CAPITOL. THE GOVERNOR SAYS HE WILL WORK HARD WITH LAWMAKERS ON BOTH SIDES OF AISLE TO DEAL WITH THE STATE’S ONE BILLION DOLLAR REVENUE SHORTFALL. HE SAYS CREATING JOBS AND BUILDING THE ECONOMY WILL BE THE FIRST
ORDER OF BUSINESS. HICKENLOOPER PLANS TO SIGN AN EXECUTIVE ORDER REQUIRING THE STATE TO PARTNER WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO CREATE JOBS. HE’S ALSO BIG ON PROMOTING COLORADO AS A TOURIST DESTINATION. HICKENLOOPER WANTS TO CREATE THE ‘GOVERNOR’S TRADE AND TOURISM AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.” HICKENLOOPER SAYS COLORADO’S APPEAL AS A TOURIST DESTINATION IS IT’S NATURAL BEAUTY AND RESOURCES, SOMETHING
HE PROMISES HE’LL PROTECT.

DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Division of Wildlife is investigating
the killing of two bull elk in Park County. A $1,000 reward has
been offered for information leading to whoever poached the
four-point elk. Hunters found them Dec. 30, about five miles west
of Tarryall Reservoir.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Boulder
County’s request that it review a land-use dispute with a church.
The county was appealing a federal court decision backing plans by
the Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot to nearly double the
size of its 128,000-square-foot campus.

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) – Members of three Air Force
Reserve units that fly C-130 cargo planes on special missions are
gathering this week for a conference at Peterson Air Force Base.
The units fly firefighting and hurricane reconnaissance missions,
as well as aerial spray missions for insect and vegetation control
and to disperse oil spills in large bodies of water.
