SPRING CREEK 2 FIRE NEAR FULL CONTAINMENT

PARACHUTE—Firefighters hope to fully contain the nearly week old Spring Creek 2 Fire burning near Parachute by the end of the day. The lightning-sparked fire near the Garfield/Mesa County line initially forced the evacuation of about two dozen homes and has destroyed some outbuildings, trailers and vehicles.

COLORADO HEALTH CARE MEASURE CONTENTIOUS

Denver—The universal health-care proposal headed to Colorado ballots this November has led to some angry outbursts and flaring tempers among liberals. The tension boiled over this week when the left-leaning activist group ProgressNow held a news conference to denounce Amendment 69. That drew angry shouts from a handful of supporters of the measure, who called members of ProgressNow as sell-outs.

REGISTER TO VOTE WITH SMARTPHONE APP

Denver—No need to head to the county clerk’s office for voter registration if you have a smartphone. The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office says smartphone users can now text “Colorado” or “CO” to “2Vote”, (number 2, Capital V, then o t e) If you are already registered to vote you can also use the app to change your address, check ballot status or party affiliation.
