Rifle–The Garfield Re-2 school district may be forced to close Wamsley Elementary in Rifle and Kathryn Senor Elementary in New Castle to stay within budget next year. The district is looking to cut up to two million dollars in the ’12-’13 school year.

Glenwood Springs–Garfield County leaders are considering a partnership with other counties in the state to promote the use of compressed natural gas in government vehicles.

Denver–Tenure for teachers shouldn’t be automatic after three years on the job according to most state lawmakers. Tomorrow, a bill calling for a new statewide teacher rating system will be one of the first measures considered by lawmakers when the legislature reconvenes for the new session.

DENVER (AP) – Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is
appealing a proposed ballot measure banning abortion to the
Colorado Supreme Court. The appeal requests that the court reject a
third attempt to ask Colorado voters whether to enact a direct
challenge to federal abortion rights.

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) – It’s never too early to be thinking about
Valentine’s Day. The Loveland Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce are now taking orders for messages that will be placed on light poles. The signs
cost $45. Past messages have included phrases like “B&K a groovy kind of
love” and “Oatmeal Loves Toast.”
