Glenwood Springs–Personal fireworks on private property will not be banned for the Fourth of July in Garfield County but Sheriff Lou Vallario and local fire chiefs are pleading with the public to keep them in the box this summer because of the fire danger. Vallario says moisture levels in and around the county are dangerously low. Fireworks are banned on all public lands.

Glenwood Springs–A small gathering of local latinos formed a mock police line up yesterday in front of the Strawberry Days Carnival at the Glenwood Springs Mall to express frustration with illegal immigration crackdowns. The demonstrators say in a show of solidarity, they plan to attend Strawberry Days this weekend and hand out cards from the ACLU explaining what to do if anyone is detained by ICE agents.

Glenwood Springs–For the second time in a month, the CMC Board of Trustees rejected a request by SourceGas to build a compressor station on it’s Spring Valley property. The vote was 5 to 1. The denial means the lawsuit filed by SourceGas challenging CMC will move forward.

Fort Collins–The High Park Fire west of Fort Collins is now close to 50 thousand acres in size. Over 13-hundred firefighters are battling the five day old blaze that has killed one woman and destroyed at least 100 structures.

Montrose–Authorities in Montrose are trying to
determine if the deaths of a man and a woman are a murder-suicide.
Montrose County sheriff Rick Dunlap says there is no indication
anyone else was involved after the bodies were found on Wednesday. Officials say the listed owner of the property was not involved. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending next of kin.

Durango– A Durango High School senior is getting a
bit part in a movie after she gained fame when student editors
removed her yearbook photo over dress code violations.
Sydney Spies will play the small role of “Missy” in an upcoming SyFy channel movie titled “American Horror House.” Spies gained notoriety after the school refused to run her submitted photo as a senior portrait.
The photo showed Spies wearing a short yellow skirt with a black
shawl that exposed her shoulders and midsection.
