Colorado–The fire danger is high across most of Colorado as firefighters continue battling a blaze in the foothills west of Denver that has claimed one life and destroyed about two dozen homes. The fire, fueled by dry conditions and high winds has scorched nearly five square miles.
Silt–The Silt Town Board discussed the possibility of pay raises for town trustees and the mayor. If approved, the raises wouldn’t take effect until 2014.
Grand Junction–Rallies against the federal health care law are being held today in cities across the state including Grand Junction. Colorado Attorney General John Suthers is in the nation’s capitol for the second day of hearings in front of the Supreme Court.
DENVER (AP) – Colorado’s improving economy has helped lawmakers
avoid the most contentious debate of the year – restoring a
suspended property tax break for senior citizens. Lawmakers learned
yesterday that sunny fiscal projections mean the state won’t have
to choose between giving a property tax break to seniors or
restoring some education cuts. But one issue pending is whether to
cut 2 percent across all state agencies. Some lawmakers worry that
will lead to layoffs.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Fort Collins police are investigating
after a video posted on YouTube raised questions about an arrest.
The video shows an officer shouting “Step back,” then pushing a
man. Twenty-four-year-old Matthew Robert Hefferson of Loveland
tells the Fort Collins Coloradoan he is the person on the video.
Hefferson says he did nothing to provoke the officer and that he’s
filed a complaint. Sunday’s confrontation occurred as police were
investigating a report a bicycle taxi was damaged.
