Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

Median barrier work, sign installation, and truck hauling operations are part of the planned activities for next week, east and west of the Twin Tunnels.

Lane closures are scheduled as follows, weather permitting:

  • Monday, October 28
    • 3:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Tuesday, October 29
    • 3:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Wednesday, October 30
    • 3:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Thursday, October 31
    • 3:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Friday, November 1
    • 3:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound

Drivers should be prepared for longer than normal delays while the above lane closures are in place – depending on traffic volumes.  The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recommends that drivers plan extra driving time for their trips through this area, primarily during daylight hours.

Please check the project hotline, (303) 327-4034 or webpage – www.coloradodot.info/projects/i70twintunnels   for additional information.

To receive project updates via e-mail, visit www.coloradodot.info and click on the cell-phone icon in the upper right-hand corner.  The link takes you to a list of items you can subscribe to, including I-70 West, Denver to Glenwood Springs.

Also, CDOT’s smartphone application provides drivers with easier access to I-70 traveler information.  It includes travel speeds and times, road conditions, incidents, road work; and feeds from CDOT’s closed-circuit television cameras and alerts.  Text CDOT to 25827 or download CDOT Mobile from your App store.

Adding a third lane to eastbound I-70 from east Idaho Springs to the bottom of Floyd Hill is part of CDOT’s strategy at reducing congestion along one of the state’s busiest corridors which, in turn, will improve gas mileage and air quality.
