COAL RIDGE BOY’S RELAY TEAM WINS GOLD

Lakewood,CO.-Coal Ridge High School has it’s first state championship. This afternoon, the Titans Boy’s won the 3A 4 x 200 meter relay with a time of 1:29.49. The team of Raul Oyarzabal, Chris Contreras, Samuel Diedrich and Cody Walls beat runner-up Berthoud by over two seconds. Rifle, last year’s silver medalist settled for the bronze today with a time of 1:31.15. Coal Ridge and Rifle finished first and second in yesterday’s prelims.

“It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life,” said Walls who ran the final leg. Walls gave credit to his teammates. “I wouldn’t trade my track team for anything.”

Walls said he felt a sudden surge of energy in the final turn toward the finish line. “I didn’t want to see anyone in my peripheral vision, so I turned it on at the end.” Walls laughed when someone asked, “So where’s Coal Ridge anyway?” They know now because Walls and his 4 x 200 meter relay teammates just put it on the map and in the record books.
