High School Volleyball

Glenwood Springs–The first big tournament of the season gets underway tomorrow at Glenwood Springs High School. The annual Demon Invitational will see teams from the Western Slope compete in the three-day event including the host Lady Demons, Coal Ridge, Grand Valley, Rifle and Roaring Fork.

College Football

Denver–The Colorado Buffaloes are slight favorites in this Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown with the CSU Rams. Kick off from Sports Authority Field at Mile High is set for 2 o’clock.

NFL/Broncos

Glendale, AZ–The Denver Broncos close out the pre-season tomorrow night against the Cardinals in Arizona.

MLB/Rockies

Denver–The Colorado Rockies will go for a three game sweep over the Dodgers today at Coors Field. The Rockies beat the Dodgers last night 8 to 4.

MIAMI (AP) – Washington’s NL East lead has been trimmed to four games over Atlanta as the Nationals are in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Nats wrap up a two-game series tonight in Miami against the Marlins.

UNDATED (AP) – The Chicago White Sox hold a two-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central heading into tonight’s game at Baltimore. The Orioles have won the first two of this four-game series against Chicago and have moved to within 3 1/2 games of the AL East-leading New York Yankees.

UNDATED (AP) – Six NFL teams close out the preseason tonight. The three games on the schedule include Tampa Bay at Washington, New England at the New York Giants and Dallas hosting Miami. Don’t expect to see many front-line players as teams usually rest their starters in the fourth preseason game and give one final look to players who are on the bubble.

NEW YORK (AP) – Both No. 3 seeds are in action today at the U.S. Open with Maria Sharapova and Andy Murray scheduled to play second-round matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium. No. 23 Kim Clijsters (KLY’-sturz), men’s fourth seed David Ferrer and No. 9 John Isner are also on the Wednesday schedule.
