Dallas, TX–The Denver Nuggets tipped off the season with a dominant, 115-93 win over the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks last night in Texas. Ty Lawson led the Nuggets with 27 points. Tomorrow, they host the Utah Jazz.

St. Paul, MN–The Colorado Avalanche beat the Minnesota Wild last night in St. Paul 4 to 2 to snap a nine-game road losing streak.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s 27-year-old
record for passing yardage in a single NFL season while leading the
Saints to a 45-16 romp over visiting Atlanta last night in New
Orleans. The Saints wrapped up the NFC South title with the victory
over the second-place Falcons.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) – Missouri is leaving the Big 12 a winner,
beating North Carolina 41-24 in the Independence Bowl. The Tigers
will begin play as a member of the Southeastern Conference next
season.

UNDATED (AP) – There are two postseason football games on
today’s schedule, beginning with the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in
Detroit, where 7-5 Western Michigan is bound to be a crowd favorite
against 6-6 Purdue (4:30 p.m. Eastern). Tonight in Charlotte, it’ll
be North Carolina State against Louisville in the Belk Bowl’s
matchup of 7-5 teams.
