UNDATED (AP) – Miami and Oklahoma City took 2-0 leads in their
respective best of seven NBA playoff series last night. The Heat
beat the Knicks 104-94, while the Thunder dumped Dallas 102-99. In
last night’s other game, Indiana evened up its first-round series
with a 93-78 win over Orlando.
ATLANTA (AP) – Game 2 of the Boston-Atlanta NBA playoff is
tonight in Atlanta and the Celtics will be without guard Rajon
Rondo (RAH’-zhahn RAHN’-doh). He has been suspended for one game by
the league for bumping an official in game 1 the other night.
UNDATED (AP) – There were two NHL playoff games last night. In
New York, the visiting Capitals beat the Rangers 3-2 to tie that
best of seven second round series at 1-1. And in St. Louis, the
Kings stopped the Blues 5-2 to grab a 2-0 lead in that best of
seven affair.
DETROIT (AP) – Outfielder Delmon Young of the Detroit Tigers has
been given a seven-day suspension by Major League Baseball for his
arrest in New York on a hate crime charge last week. The
commissioner’s office says the suspension is retroactive to Friday,
the day Young was arrested after a late-night incident at his hotel
during which police say he yelled anti-Semitic epithets.
CHICAGO (AP) – Veteran Johnny Damon returns to big league
baseball tonight as a member of the Cleveland Indians. He was
signed by the club to provide some offense to a team that has had a
tough time scoring runs this season. Damon needs 277 hits to reach
3,000 for his career. He hit .261 with 16 homers and 73 RBIs for
Tampa Bay last year.
