Denver–The Kansas City Chiefs will get their first look at Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs’ coaching staff is trying to simulate some of the instinctive moves Tebow makes in the spread offense.

Denver–The Colorado Avalanche are back in action tonight at the Pepsi Center hosting the New York Islanders. The Avs are looking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s 5 to 2 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit.
College Football
State College, PA–Joe Paterno has been fired as the head football coach at Penns State after 46 years. School trustees made the announcement last night as more disturbing details about the child sex abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Tom Bradley has been appointed the interim head coach as Penn State prepares to host Nebraska this Saturday.
SINGAPORE (AP) – Four-time major winner Phil Mickelson has been
elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame says Mickelson, who became eligible after turning 40 last year, received 72 percent of votes cast.
Mickelson says it was a “special, cool honor.” The three-time
Masters champion is playing at the Singapore Open. He says he hopes
to win at least 11 more tournaments to give him 50 victories in his
career. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem says Mickelson is “exactly
what you like to see in a player.” Mickelson will be inducted on May 7 at the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum in St. Augustine, Fla.
T25 FOOTBALL
Two games tonight
UNDATED (AP) – There are two games on the Top-25 football
schedule tonight. In Atlanta, the tenth-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies
are facing No. 20 Georgia Tech. The winner of the game will take a
major step toward claiming the Coastal Division title of the ACC.
The other game has 11th-ranked Houston at Tulane.
NFL
Raiders face Chargers
SAN DIEGO (AP) – Thursday night football is back in the NFL
tonight. This evening’s game is being played in San Diego as the
Chargers entertain AFC West rival Oakland. Each team is 4-and-4,
tied with Kansas City for the lead in the division. The only team
not in first place is Denver, and the Broncos are just a game back
at 3-and-5.
Each team is coming off a loss as the Raiders were beaten by
Denver 38-24 and the Chargers were downed by Green Bay 45-38.
A year ago the Raiders swept the two games from the Chargers
after losing 13 in a row in the series.
NBA-LABOR
Marathon session
NEW YORK (AP) – After meeting for more than 12 hours yesterday,
representatives for the NBA and the players union are back at it
today, in an attempt to reach a settlement in their labor dispute.
At the end of Wednesday’s marathon session, commissioner David
Stern was mum about any progress, saying, “we’re not failing.
We’re not succeeding. We’re just there.”
