High School Soccer Playoffs

Carbondale–The Roaring Fork Rams host the Grizzlies of Bruce Randolph High School this afternoon at 4 o’clock. The Rams are the 15th seeded team in Class 3 A.

The Coal Ridge Titans travel to Alamosa tomorrow for a first round playoff game at 3:30.

The 30th seeded Rifle Bears head to Denver Thursday afternoon for a first round meeting with the Kent Denver Sun Devils.

UNDATED (AP) – The NBA labor impasse continues with no
foreseeable end in sight. The owner’s lockout is nearing the
four-month mark and after three days and 30 hours of meetings with
a federal mediator last week, the two sides remain far apart on the
main issues.
The New York Daily News is reporting that the league will cancel
two more weeks of the season today — a total of at least 102
NBA Commissioner David Stern already has announced cancellation
of the first two weeks of the regular season, which was supposed to
begin Nov. 1.

Cardinals in a bind
ST. LOUIS (AP) – It’s back to St. Louis for the World Series,
where the home team will have its back to the wall when play
resumes Wednesday night.
The Rangers beat the visiting Cardinals 4-2 in Game 5 on Monday
night for their second straight win and a three-games-to-two lead
in the best-of-seven championship matchup. Mike Napoli’s
(NAP’-oh-leez) two-run homer in the bottom of the eight was the
game winner, giving Texas two opportunities to capture its first

(HY’-mee) Garcia. The Rangers will send right-hander Colby Lewis to

Texas has already bettered its performance from a year ago, when

Epstein’s move continues to play out
UNDATED (AP) – The Cubs and Red Sox are both holding a news
conference today.
Chicago is introducing new general manager Theo Epstein, who it
coaxed away from Boston.
The Red Sox will officially announce that Ben Cherington has
been promoted to replace Epstein as their GM. He’s spent a dozen
years in the organization in various capacities.
Cherrington and his former boss will negotiate compensation for
Epstein’s leaving Boston with one year left on his contract.

Jags snaps lengthy losing streak
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – It was one ugly football game last
night in Jacksonville, where the Jaguars ended a five-game skid
with a 12-7 victory over Baltimore. The Ravens didn’t get their
initial first down until the 5:26 mark of the third quarter and
didn’t get on the scoreboard until late in the fourth quarter.
They’re 4-2 record is good for a tie for second with Cincinnati in
the AFC North, a half-game behind 5-2 Pittsburgh.
Even with a 2-5 mark, the Jags are only two games behind
first-place Houston in the AFC South race.
