ST. LOUIS. (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals seem to have the
momentum heading into World Series Game 7, but if tonight’s
clincher comes down to the bullpens, the Texas Rangers could have
the edge.
In last night’s dramatic 10-9, 11-inning victory in Game 6, the
Cards were forced to use relievers for eight innings, while the
Rangers tapped their pen for only 4 2/3. St. Louis closer Jason
Motte (maht) threw 27 pitches.
St. Louis hopes for a solid six innings, at least, out of its
starter, which is undecided at this point. All signs point to
manager Tony La Russa giving the nod to Chris Carpenter, who would
be throwing on three day’s rest but is 8-2 in 14 career postseason
starts. The Cards could also go with Kyle Lohse (LOHSH), but he’s
0-4 in nine career postseason appearances, including four starts.
Texas will start lefty Matt Harrison, who took the loss in the
Rangers’ 16-7 defeat in Game 2.
This is the first Game 7 in a World Series since 2002, snapping
the longest drought since the series began in 1903.

UCF board gives president negotiation authority
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – The University of Central Florida’s board
of trustees has unanimously voted to give school president John
Hitt authority to negotiate a contract for its athletics programs
to join a new conference.
The conference has not been identified, but UCF officials met
recently with the Big East, which is looking to add football
members after recently losing Syracuse, Pittsburgh and TCU.
It is considering adding UCF, along with fellow Conference USA
members SMU and Houston for all sports, and Boise State, Navy and
Air Force for football only.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-SEC-MISSOURI-WEBSITE
SEC: Missouri announcement inadvertently posted
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – The Southeastern Conference says an
announcement that Missouri was joining the league was inadvertently
posted on the league’s Web site and that no agreement has been
reached.
The announcement dated Oct. 22 was on the site Thursday night,
and was reported by outkickthecoverage.com.
The SEC’s Web site attributed the announcement to SEC
Commissioner Mike Slive (SLYV) and said he made it on Monday –
presumably of this week given the listed date. It included
Missouri-SEC connections and detailed the university’s athletic
history.
SEC spokesman Charles Bloom posted on Twitter that a Web vendor
made a mistake and that the SEC and Missouri don’t have an
agreement. The announcement was pulled from the site.
