MILAN (AP) – Kobe Bryant says it’s “very possible” he’ll play
in Italy during the NBA lockout, adding that the country is like
home to him since he spent part of his childhood there.
Virtus Bologna has made numerous contract offers to the Los
Angeles Lakers star. Bryant discussed the situation with the
Gazzetta dello Sport during a sponsor’s appearance in Milan on
Wednesday. Bryant says, “It would be a dream for me. There’s an
opportunity that we’ve been discussing over the last few days. It’s
very possible and that’s good news for me.”
Virtus tells The Associated Press that the latest talks are
centered on a $2.5 million offer for 10 games over 40 days from
Oct. 9 to Nov. 16.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Coaches in the Western Collegiate

coaches’ poll. North Dakota got four first-place votes and finished
second in the poll, followed by Colorado College, which got the

season.

UNDATED (AP) – The Boston Red Sox have blown a nine-game lead in
the span of 23 days as they try to fend off the Tampa Bay Rays for
the AL wild card spot. Tonight they send 15-game winner Jon Lester
to the mound on three days against Baltimore as they try to secure
a postseason berth and avoid one of the worst collapses in major
league history. The Rays will start ace David Price against a
Yankees club that will likely rest many of its regulars.

UNDATED (AP) – The National League wild card is still unsettled
as Atlanta and St. Louis are both tied going into the final night
of the regular season. The Braves host Philadelphia with Tim Hudson
starting against the Phils’ Joe Blanton. The Cardinals send Chris
Carpenter to the hill in Houston against Brett Meyers.

NEW YORK (AP) – Major League Baseball has set the times for
potential Thursday wild-card tiebreaker games with both races
