Brett Eldredge Takes Some Left Turns to Keep Things Interesting on His New Album, “Illinois”

Warner Music Nashville

Brett Eldredge obviously stretched himself musically on his new album, Illinois, as heard on the project’s quirky lead single, “Lose My Mind.” Though his debut project, Bring You Back, produced three #1 hits, Brett wanted to change things up a bit for the follow-up.

He tells ABC Radio, “You never want to release an album that’s the same thing as the last one. You want to have elements of the stuff that people love, but you also want to grow as an artist. I’ll get so bored if I do the same thing over and over.”

In order to switch things up, Brett explored his R&B side quite a bit.

He adds, “For this album, I definitely branched out more and got my soul on a little more.”

Fans who fell in love with Brett’s first album will find plenty of story songs on Illinois, including the title track. Brett wrote that song while thinking about his upbringing in Paris, Illinois. Remembering those simple times is important to Brett as he continues his rise as one of country’s hottest new acts.

Brett explains, “No matter how far you go in life, no matter how far you travel away from the place you were born and all that stuff — that person, your roots of who you are, where it all started is what matters most and what made you who you are. You’ve got to remind yourself that a lot.”

Illinois is on sale Friday featuring a new collaboration with Brett’s pal Thomas Rhett on the disco-inspired track, “You Can’t Stop Me.” Look for Brett to promote the new album with a performance on ABC’s Good Morning America on Tuesday, September 15 and Live! with Kelly and Michael on Wednesday, September 16.
