Scotty McCreery Named “Best American Idol” by “Los Angeles Times” Readers

Scotty McCreery is the “Best American Idol,” according to the readers of The Los Angeles Times. The 2011 champion finished ahead of more high-profile winners like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, who came in third and fourth, respectively, in a new poll. Phillip Phillips was second, while Jordin Sparks was fifth.

“Well dagum! I don’t even know what to say,” Scotty remarked with his signature down-home good humor. “I appreciate all the love and support that my fans have given me since I first appeared on Idol five years ago. Because of them, I get to live out my dreams. Saying ‘thank you’ doesn’t seem to be enough, but I am truly thankful for all of them.”

Just last week, the season-10 winner returned to show, mentoring top 24 contestants Jenna Renae and Jeneve Mitchell. Scotty’s chronicle of his American Idol experience, Go Big or Go Home:  The Journey Toward the Dream, comes out May 3.
