The Redstone Castle Ice Cream Social is scheduled for Sunday, July 14, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Redstone Historical Society, the event features a mini tour of the Castle, hand-scooped ice cream, contests and game.
Old-fashioned games and contests will be available to all including a ladies’ hat contest and a gentleman’s bow tie contest. The Historical Society encourages individuals to wear early 1900’s attire.
The Redstone Castle was built by coal magnate J. C. Osgood in 1902. At the time, Osgood was one of the wealthiest people in the United States (purportedly ranking 6th).
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, the Castle provides a unique glimpse into the personal styles and social culture of America’s elite at the turn of the 20th Century. Built in the Tudor style, the Castle is filled with the finest furnishings of the period: wooden paneling designed by Gustav Stickley, intricately cast brass globe lights created by Louis Tiffany and countless pieces of furniture and artwork collected by the Osgoods on their frequent trips to Europe.
Tickets for the event are $20.00 for non-members of the Historical Society and $10.00 for children ages 6-16. Members may attend for $5.00. Information is available on the Society’s website at http://history.
Access to the Castle is via Shuttle only. The shuttle will depart every 15 minutes from the Redstone Museum.
