Alleged driver in fatal hit-and-run crash to becharged in Larimer County

On January 25, 2014, the Colorado State Patrol was notified of a crash involving a passenger car and a bicycle on the northbound I-25 frontage road, just north of the Windsor exit. The driver of the passenger vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene of the crash.
The bicyclist, Ernesto Jorge Wiedenbrug, was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies, where he died of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
On February 6, the Colorado State Patrol obtained a warrant for the arrest of Theresa Marie O’Connor of Fort Collins for investigation of the following offenses:
1)  Failed to Remain at the Scene After Accident Involving Death (Class-3 Felony)
2)  Careless Driving Causing Death (Class-1 Misdemeanor Traffic Infraction), and
3)  Failed to Notify Police of Accident (Class-2 Misdemeanor Traffic Infraction)
O’Connor surrendered herself to the Larimer County Detention Center on February 6 and has been released on a $2,500 bond. Members of the Colorado State Patrol will be presenting the case to the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office on Monday, February 10, for the formal filing of charges.
The case still is under investigation.  Anybody who witnessed the collision or has information that has not previously been reported to the Colorado State Patrol should contact Trooper Ben Simpson at (303) 239-4501.

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
