ASPEN, Colo. (AP) – Aspen city officials are looking into a possible ban on bottled water in plastic, disposable containers.
The City Council has directed staffers to investigate options for prohibiting or discouraging single-use plastic containers. The Aspen Daily News reports that Councilman Torre suggested a possible ban Tuesday, saying he was astounded by all the plastic bottles he saw littering the waters on a recent sailing trip in the British Virgin Islands.
City staffers are reviewing bans on plastic bottles in other communities. Torre says he’d like to see all forms of single-use plastic containers eventually eliminated, but the idea beind an ordinance is to at least start the discussion.
