***** 7/30/2016 4:30 PM UPDATE:  Fire crews reached 100% containment this afternoon and expect to continue “mopping up” the fire through Sunday.  Highway 133 will be open in both directions overnight (from 8:00 PM Saturday until 8:00 AM Sunday).  On Sunday, one lane of Highway 133 will be closed again, with traffic alternating from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM between the BRB Campground and Red Dog Road.

***** 7/30/2016 11:00 AM UPDATE:  The Sewell Mesa Fire is now 65% contained and fire crews hope to have 100% containment today.  One lane of Highway 133 remains between the BRB Campground and Red Dog Road with an alternating traffic configuration.  A helicopter is on standby, but will not be used unless it becomes necessary.

***** 7/29/2016 8:11 PM UPDATE:  One lane of traffic is open on Highway 133 at Mile Marker 63.  Traffic will be alternated, one direction of travel at a time.  This configuration is expected to be in place until approximately 3:00 AM Saturday.

Fire crews are fighting a fire near Sustainable Settings on Highway 133 tonight.  According to Jenny Cutright with the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District, a number of local fire departments as well as aircraft and firefighters from the Upper Colorado Interagency Fire Management Unit are providing mutual aid.

As of 5:45 Friday night, the fire is estimated to be 20 acres in size and is 10 percent contained.  No structures have been lost, or are threatened, but a pre-evacuation notice has been sent to residents living in the area of Red Dog Road.

Cutright says all residents are asked to be fire aware due to the high wildfire danger in the area.

Highway 133 is expected to remain closed at Mile Marker 63 until at least 9:00 Friday Night.

We will continue to monitor this story through the weekend and we’ll post updates as necessary.
