In a surprise vote today, the Garfield County Board of Commisisoners voted to fire County Manager Ed Green. The motion to let Green go was made by Commissioner Tom Jankovsky and seconded by Mike Samson.
Green’s only response was to ask, “Is there a reason?” Commission Chairman John Martin says the Board is excersizing it’s legal authority to terminate Green’s employment without cause. No specific reasons were given and the vote was unanimous.
Green has been the County Manager for 13 years. County Attorney Andrew Gorgey will serve as the interim manager for the next six weeks or so while a search is conducted to find a permanent replacement for Green.
Greene will officially be on Administrative Leave until February 3 when the termination will take effect.
