EXPEDITED SECURITY SCREENING PROGRAM COMING TO AIRPORT
Popular New TSA Program Allows Qualified Travelers to Move More Quickly Through Airport Security
(Aspen, CO – Feb. 4, 2014) The Transportation Security Administration’s new TSA Pre Check program is coming to Aspen this winter. That means qualified travelers will not have to remove their shoes, belts or lightweight jackets or have to remove their laptops or small quantities of liquids, gels and aerosols from carry-on luggage during expedited security screening. This is expected to translate into shorter lines, shorter wait times, and an improved customer experience.
“We are thrilled that the TSA has chosen our airport as one of the one hundred or so airports in the country in which to offer the expedited security screening program,” said Airport Director, Jim Elwood.
The TSA Pre check program includes certain frequent flyers of participating airlines and members of existing Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler (CBP) programs including Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI programs. It also includes members of the U.S. Armed Forces including those serving in the Coast Guard, reserves and National Guard.
Any U.S. Citizen can apply for TSA Pre Check expedited screening benefits for a fee of $85, which, if approved, is valid for five years.
“Our lines at the security gate can get very long, especially during the height of the ski season in Aspen/Snowmass,” Elwood said. “Pre Check travelers will have a separate security lane that will get them through security much faster,” Elwood said. “I’m sure there will be many frequent fliers and other low security risk travelers who will qualify for this program and enjoy taking advantage of the convenience it will offer here,” Elwood said.
The new program is expected to be launched at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport by mid-February 2014. For more information about the program logon to www.tsa.gov.
