Flash Flood Watch in Effect Through the Night

Weather systems are combining to draw moisture into Colorado, raising the risk of flooding in much of the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for nearly the whole state this afternoon and tonight. High and low pressure systems combined with typical summer monsoon moisture could cause 2 to 3 inches of rain to fall in less than an hour in some places this afternoon. The rain is expected to continue overnight into Wednesday.

The northern foothills hit hard by last September’s flooding are included in the warning area. However, meteorologist Kari Bowen says latest storms aren’t expected to last as long as those last fall.

One mudslide closed Midland Avenue in Glenwood for several hours last night after a brief but intense rainstorm moved through the area.
