DENVER (AP) – Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll offer core
principles but no major new programs in his first State of the
State speech today. The Democrat say his first address to lawmakers
will focus on jobs and the economy, with an emphasis on
streamlining programs the state already has in place.
DENVER (AP) – Sen. Mark Udall is asking Democrats and
Republicans to sit side-by-side rather than dividing up by party
during the State of the Union speech. The Colorado Democrat says
the tradition of having the parties sit on opposite sides of the
House chamber is a “negative symbol of the divisions in
Congress.” President Barack Obama will deliver the State of the
Union speech on Jan. 25.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) – Rangers in Rocky
Mountain National Park have rescued a 55-year-old Chicago man who
tumbled about 900 feet down a mountain while backcountry skiing.
Park officials say the man, who was with two other skiers, has
several injuries from yesterday’s accident. He has been taken to
the hospital in Loveland.
DENVER (AP) – A former Colorado Springs man has been sentenced
to two years in prison for trying to damage a Transportation
Security Administration computer after he was told that his job at
the federal agency was being eliminated. Douglas Duchak pleaded
guilty in October in the case. Authorities say he tried to disrupt
a computer program used by the TSA to screen air passengers who
might be security threats.
AURORA, Colo. (AP) – Sen. Mark Udall says he wants to learn
about jobs and is visiting a suburban Denver security company to
talk to employees. The Democrat plans a stop today at ADT Security
Services in Aurora to ask workers how lawmakers could improve the
economy.
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) -Two Boulder County men have pleaded guilty
to involvement in a scheme that authorities say cost investors more
than $18 million. The Longmont Times-Call reports that Bela Geczy
and Michael Kass could face probation or up to 16 years in prison
when sentenced April 5.
