Garfield County authorities arrested a Glenwood Springs man this past weekend after they say he attempted to kill his brother by slicing his throat.
30-year-old Brian Dunlap is now facing attempted murder charges after he attacked his brother, 33-year-old Jason Dunlap, after the two drove up Transfer Trail and got into an argument over four-wheeling routes. Authorities say both men had been drinking beer before the incident. A friend of the pair who had been en route to join them arrived shortly after the fight and transported Jason to Valley View Hospital.
Another driver coming up the road later found Brian Dunlap still lying on the tailgate of the truck with blood on his clothing. Brian told the man what had happened and that he needed to get back down the road to make sure his brother was still alive. Garfield County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Brian a short time later.
Dunlap is charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault – both class 3 felonies. He could be facing between 10 and 32 years in prison.
