Stephen Bershenyi eeked out a victory to win a second term as the at-large member of Glenwood Springs City Council last night. He beat challenger and former City Councilman Lyle Beattie by only 27 votes. Bershenyi said the close vote was humbling for him and he believes it’s reason to listen to Beattie’s ideas in order to achieve consensus on controversial issues currently affecting the city. The final result of the mail-in election was 761 for Bershenyi and 734 for Beattie.
Voters also approved the sale of two parcels of land in the 700 Block of Colorado Avenue by a vote of 938 to 507. One possibility is the sale of the lots to Garfield County for expanded parking, but the ballot question didn’t require the lots be sold for that purpose.
