GARCO PULLS PLANNED PARENTHOOD FUNDS
Glenwood Springs—Planned Parenthood in Glenwood Springs won’t receive any funds from Garfield County next year. The Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request from the Human Services Commission for 15-hundred dollars. Commissioner Tom Jankovsky made the motion to cut funds saying he’s been getting several e-mails from the organization that have been too political for his liking.
GARCO APPROVES GRANT FUNDS FOR SAGE GROUSE MAPPING
Glenwood Springs—Garfield County is joining an effort with other counties where sage grouse populations exist to provide more accurate mapping of the bird’s habitat. Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado Director Bonnie Peterson says the 380 thousand dollar grant from the Department of Local Affairs is strongly supported by neighboring counties including Moffat and Rio Blanco. Garfield County Commissioners agreed to contribute 15 thousand dollars in a matching grant. The money will come from the county’s energy mitigation fund.
