GLENWOOD GARAGE FIRE
Glenwood Springs—The cause of last nightβs garage fire in Glenwood Springs is being investigated. The fire was reported in the 600 block of 8th Street and quickly spread to a nearby home. According to information from the Glenwood Springs Fire Department, the first engine arrived on the scene in less than three minutes and had the flames snuffed out in short order. No one was hurt and officials say the fire caused moderate damage to the garage and melted some of the siding on a house across the street. The Glenwood Springs Fire Department was assisted by the police department and Colorado River Fire Rescue.
GLENWOOD OFFICIALS LOOKING FOR FUNDS TO BOLSTER POLICE FORCE
Glenwood Springs—One more police officer is no problem, but a second one for 2016 will be a challenge according to outgoing City Manager Jeff Hecksel. The council and staff are exploring ways to cover the roughly 81 thousand dollar hit to next yearβs budget. Councilwoman Kathryn Trauger believes downtown needs additional police presence and the funds can be found. Hecksel says adding more officers to the force is only a temporary fix. He says the root of the problem is in paying a competitive salary to retain officers and maintain a full staff over the long term. The Council will discuss the matter further at a work session December 3rd.
