RIFLE (AP) – Members of the governor’s drilling task have wrapped up the second of two days of meetings in Rifle. Oil and gas workers and elected officials from several counties told the panel that local governments are doing a good job of regulating the industry. Others say more rules are needed to protect drinking water.
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) – People in western Colorado are honoring an Air Force pilot who was killed while on a deployment to fight Islamic State extremists. People holding American flags lined up to watch the procession carrying Capt. William DuBois’ casket through Grand Junction today. DuBois was killed Dec. 1 when his F-16 jet crashed before he began the combat portion of his flight.
DENVER (AP) – Colorado House Republicans will propose legislation requiring counties that ban fracking to pay mineral owners for losing their ability to develop their property. The House GOP says Rep. Perry Buck of Windsor will be introducing the bill in the session that begins next month.
PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) – The area around an old smelter in Pueblo is now a Superfund site, clearing the way for cleanup. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency added the Colorado Smelter area to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites today following a public comment period. The site is in a mixed-use neighborhood near downtown.
