SNOW CLOSES ASPEN SCHOOLS TODAY
Aspen—The Aspen School District canceled classes today due to heavy snow, slick roads and limited visibility caused by fog. A winter weather advisory is in effect today for the higher elevations. A return to spring-like temperatures is expected Tuesday and the rest of the week.
BLM SLASH PILES TO BE BURNED THIS WEEK
El Jebel—As soon as the weather conditions allow, the Bureau of Land Management will burn about 700 slash piles. The piles are left over from last year when crews began thinning pinyon pine and juniper trees as part of the Panorama Fuels Reduction Project. Smoke from the area will be noticeable for short periods from Basalt, El Jebel and Carbondale.
GYPSUM ARMED ROBBERS STILL BEING SOUGHT
Gypsum—Two Latino men who held up a liquor store in Gypsum late last night are still on the loose. According to reports from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, the men walked into “The Liquor Shop” just before 9:30, held the store clerks at gunpoint and demanded all the money from the cash drawer. The men drove off in a light colored Ford pick up, either an F-150 or an F-250 with a camper shell. The men are described to be in their late 20’s or 30’s. One suspect was last seen wearing a black zip up coat with a fuzzy hood and a denim vest. The second man was wearing jeans with a long-sleeved plaid sweatshirt.
