GRAND JUNCTION(AP) – A 78-year-old man accused of causing a crash that killed an off-duty Ouray police officer has been cited for careless driving. The man has been issued a summons stemming from the March 14 crash that killed Officer Scott Mills. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the findings of an investigation will be turned over to prosecutors. Mills was riding his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 550 when he was struck from behind by a truck when he slowed to make a left turn. He joined the Ouray Police Department in 2014 and previously worked with the Los Alamos County Police Department in New Mexico.

DENVER (AP) – Gov. John Hickenlooper is speaking out against the potential transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to Fremont County, saying he’s opposed to the idea because of local opposition. While Hickenlooper says he doubts the White House will end up choosing Colorado, he says he will stand by residents and be “firmly against” the transfer if it does happen. Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet also recently joined Republican Sen. Cory Gardner in opposing the move.

BOULDER (AP) – Drivers taking the new express lanes on U.S. Highway 36 between Boulder and the Denver area are now paying more. The tolls range from $1.75 and $9.35 depending on the time of day, the amount of traffic and whether drivers have a toll pass.

BOULDER (AP) – A new public school in Boulder County is being considered next to a site that has been approved for oil and gas drilling. The Boulder Valley school board has cleared the way for construction to start next month on a new school for K-8 classrooms in Erie. Some people are concerned about the location and want to explore other options.

HARTSEL (AP) – Chaffee County authorities are investigating after a hiker found some human remains. The sheriff says a hiker out looking for antler sheds reported finding the remains yesterday in the Trout Creek Pass area, about 15 miles southwest of Hartsel. He says the area is being treated as the scene of a homicide.
