GARCO APPROVES FUNDS FOR ‘SANE’ PROGRAM
Glenwood Springs—An important rape investigation program is being restored to Garfield County and the rest of the 9th Judicial District. The once dormant program known as ‘SANE’ standing for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, received a $2,500 grant from the Garfield County Board of Commissioners this morning. District Attorney Sherry Caloia says the money will go through the proper channels along with other contributions. Caloia says the SANE program was seldom used and suspended by former D.A. Martin Beeson in 2012. The nearest sexual assault nurse examiner is in Grand Junction.
BODY OF MAN FOUND IN COLORADO RIVER
Glenwood Springs—The body of man was found recently floating on the south side of the Colorado River near the Glenwood Springs wastewater treatment plan. A couple of commercial raft guides discovered the body around noon last Saturday and called 911. Officials say it appears the man, in his 40’s, had been in the river for a few days. The Garfield County Coroner’s Office is trying to determine the cause of death and the man’s identity.
GARCO S.O. LOOKING INTO WEEKEND SHOOTING
Glenwood Springs—The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred over the weekend. According to reports from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies got a call about a possible shooting just before 3:30 Saturday morning near Buffalo Valley. The shooting was verified and the woman was taken to Valley View Hospital for treatment. The woman, in her 30’s’, did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Deputies determined the shooting was an accident.
