MAN DIES IN GARCO ATV ACCIDENT
Glenwood Springs—A Fruita man was killed in an ATV crash north of New Castle Monday morning. According to reports from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the 30 year old man, who’s name has not been released, lost control on a switchback on County Road 243 and was thrown off the vehicle. The ATV landed on top of him. Authorities say the man left camp and was headed home when the crash occurred.
HIKING TRIO RESCUED FROM FLAT TOPS BY HELICOPTER
Glenwood Springs—Three overdue hikers who got lost in the Flat Tops Wilderness Sunday had to spend a chilly night there before a Fourth of July rescue. A 21 year old man and woman and an 18 year old man were found by a helicopter that was called in to help with the search in the Trapper’s Lake/Devil’s Causeway area. Garfield County Search and Rescue teams were assisted on the Yampa side by crews from Routt County after the parents of the three reported that they were last in getting back from their hike and weren’t dressed for bad weather. Crews were able to get to the hikers before dark last night.
PLANE CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED
Buena Vista— One person is dead after a small plane crashed and burned Monday afternoon north of Buena Vista. Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze says the single-engine plane went down in a field several miles north of town, about 4 miles north of the airport. Spezze says investigators are still trying to determine the name of the pilot. He says one witness reported hearing the engine sputter, but authorities are still trying to determine the cause.
WEST SLOPE AIR TAXI
GYPSUM (AP) – Colorado has a new air taxi service targeted at traveling professionals like architects and contractors who can’t afford to hire a jet. The Alpine Flight, based at the Eagle County Regional Airport in Gypsum, began transporting passengers last week in a six passenger, twin-engine Piper Seneca.
