GARCO LANDFILL FUTURE OPERATIONS DISCUSSED
Glenwood Springs—A professional firm may take over management of the West Garfield County landfill. The Board of Commissioners are considering an offer from Carbondale-based Heartland Environmental Services to take over the day-to-day operations. Larry Giroux with Heartland says it’s a business plan to make the landfill more efficient, not a plan to take over. According to cash flow analysis by Heartland, the West Garfield County landfill showed a net profit between 2006 and 2015 of just over 224 thousand dollars. Giroux says the county will continue to own the landfill and if the agreement is approved, they would give commissioners an update every quarter.
ROUGH LANDING IN ROUTT COUNTY
Hayden—58 relieved passengers applauded and cheered when the jet they were on made a rough but safe and injury-free landing yesterday at the Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Routt County. According to reports from the airport, an American Eagle regional jet coming in from Dallas was having trouble with it’s flaps. The flaps are part of the wing that extends when a plane takes off or lands. Officials say the pilot slammed on the brakes as soon as the wheels hit the runway.
TRUMP COMING TO ASPEN
Aspen—Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is coming to Aspen later this month to raise money for his campaign. Trump and his team will be in Aspen Thursday the 25th for a private gathering at 25 thousand dollars per couple. Only insiders know where the fundraiser is being held though. What is known is Denver Businessman Larry Mizel, the same man who hosted a Trump fundraiser last month is also backing this month’s event. Trump currently trails in the polls to Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton.
