LOCAL HOTEL PART OF NATIONWIDE COMPUTER HACK
Snowmass—One local hotel was among 20 in the nation to be targeted by computer hackers who collected names, credit card account numbers, expiration dates and verification codes. According to hotel operator HEI Hotels and Resorts, the Westin Snowmass Resort in Snowmass Village was the only property in Colorado targeted by the hackers. Five hotels and resorts in California were victimized and four in Florida. Officials with HEI say malware has been put in place at each of the hotels. The company says, “we are treating this matter as a top priority and took steps to address and contain this incident promptly after it was discovered.” HEI says the hacking of customers’ credit card information may be traced as far back as March of last year. HEI says the incident has been contained and customers can safely use credit cards at all of it’s properties.
