BODY FOUND IN CARBONDALE DITCH
Carbondale—A gruesome discovery was made by children at a Carbondale park last night. The youngsters found a man’s body floating in an irrigation ditch during a concert in the park. Authorities are trying to identify the man and the cause of death.
SPRING CREEK 2 FIRE PROGRESS
Parachute—Evacuation orders were lifted last night for residents in the path of the Spring Creek 2 Fire near Battlement Mesa. According to reports from the Bureau of Land Management and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the fire is 40 percent contained and has scorched 621 acres since late Friday afternoon when it was first reported. Chris Joyner with the BLM says crews were able to make significant progress on the fire that came perilously close to several homes. Authorities say the quick, aggressive response to the fire included water tenders, hand crews digging fire lines and an air attack team dumping water and slurry on the rapid-moving fire. No injuries have been reported however the fire has destroyed four outbuildings, three vehicles and three trailers. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities say the fire danger is extremely high in Western Colorado.
