NEW DEVELOPMENTS ON FIRE NEAR KREMMLING

Kremmling—The wildfire burning southwest of Kremmling is smaller than previously estimated.  According to the White River National Forest, the Gutzler Fire is around 100 acres in size.  Last night, crews thought it was more than twice that size.  The fire is burning in one of the state’s hardest-hit regions for beetle kill and is only a mile west of one home and several ranch structures.  Fortunately, the structures are surrounded by irrigated pasture land and  fire engines are patrolling the area.  No evacuations have been called for but some campers in the area have been encouraged to leave.  Eight smokejumpers, a Type 3 Helicopter, two single engine air tankers and three hotshot crews are focusing on firefighter safety and protecting property.   A pair of single engine air tankers are also on standby. Officials say smoke from the Gutzler Fire may be visible in the Vail Valley as well as Silverthorne and Green Mountain Reservoir.
